THE House independent minority bloc yesterday said Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay should ignore the political intrigues being sowed between him and President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III since he is doing a good job as the second highest official of the country and housing czar. “We are supportive of his (Vice President Binay) programs as Vice President and housing czar. He is doing a good job and has the right formula to serve the people,” Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, head of the House independent minority bloc, told reporters in a press conference.
On Tuesday, Caloocan City Rep. Egay Erice, a member of the ruling Liberal Party (LP), challenged Binay to resign for attacking President Aquino.
Buhay Hayaang Yumabong party-list Rep. Lito Atienza, a member of the Romualdez bloc, challenged Erice to instead call on Budget Sec. Florencio “Butch” Abad Jr. and Agriculture Sec. Proceso Alcala to resign after they were implicated in the pork barrel scam.
“He should instead look at Secretaries Alcala and Abad. He should challenge the two to resign. Vice President Binay is doing a good job and the two I mentioned were lousy ones,” said Atienza.
Abakada party-list Rep. Jonathan de la Cruz asked the Palace people whom he did not name to stop playing politics and work for the common good of the people.” The Vice President is doing a good job, it is proven. They should stop politicking,” he said.
Parañaque City Rep. Gus Tambunting, a member of Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), denied that the Vice President ordered UNA members to attack President Aquino.
“There is no truth that he (Vice President) has ordered UNA members in Congress to attack the President. That is far from the truth. As a matter of fact, he asked us from day one to support President Aquino and the leadership of Speaker (Feliciano) Belmonte. They should leave the Vice President alone because he is a performer,” said Tambunting.
Erice hit Binay after Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco and Sen. Nancy Binay pointed to LP as behind the demolition job, saying the Vice President cannot benefit from the Aquino government while at the same time attacking it.
Makati City Rep. Abigail Binay said Erice and a group of Malacañang people who are out to drive a wedge between President Aquino and Vice President to spoil their good relationship.
Rep. Binay decried the alleged “white paper” report that she allegedly used her Priority Development Assistance Funds allocation from 2007 to 2009 for “pro-Binay rallies” and “hakot crowds.”RYAN PONCE PACPACO
