A MEMBER of the independent bloc led by Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez yesterday welcomed President Benigno Aquino III’s statement not to seek reelection in 2016, saying this would help his government focus on addressing the various problems besetting the country.
Abakada party-list Rep. Jonathan de la Cruz, a member of the House independent bloc led by Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, said the realization of President Aquino is an admission that the people are against political Charter change (Cha-cha).
“It is well that [President Aquino] finally put a stop to this misplaced initiative of his supporters,” said de la Cruz.
“Now we can focus on the real work in hand alleviating our peoples’ problems and promoting their welfare,” de la Cruz added. 1-BAP party-list Rep. Silvestre Bello III, a member of the House minority bloc, thanked and commended President Aquino for heeding the true voice of the bosses.
“I commend the President for finally clearing the issue on his plan to amend the Constitution to make him eligible for another term. He truly is the worthy son of a Philippine democracy icon — the late President Cory Aquino,” said Bello, a former Justice secretary.
